At Fearless, creating women's swimwear that truly fits is never a happy coincidence. It is the result of listening, refining, questioning, and learning. It also means going beyond the design room and stepping inside the factories where our swimsuits are actually made, working closely with the people who bring each piece to life.
Recently, we travelled to China to visit our manufacturing partners. Our goal was simple: to understand every step of the swimwear manufacturing process more deeply, strengthen the relationships at the heart of our brand and ensure the swimwear we create continues to deliver on comfort, support, quality and longevity.
What we experienced reaffirmed why Fearless swimwear fits the way it does - and why the way it's made matters far more than most people realise.
Fit Starts With People, Not Patterns
Most swimwear brands begin with a standardised size chart and design from there, assuming that bodies will somehow adapt to the garment. We think that's BS.
Fearless swimwear is designed to fit how women are actually shaped, not how a chart says they should be. We've fit tested our swimsuits on over 150 everyday women with different body shapes, bust sizes, torso lengths and proportions, because we know that bodies are wildly varied and "one size fits all" simply doesn't work.
When something doesn't sit quite right, a strap feels off, or a fabric pulls in the wrong place, support that could be better - we don't ignore it. We document it, feed it back, and adjust the design accordingly. This feedback-driven approach sits at the core of everything we do, and it carries through from design right through to the manufacturing process.
Why We Manufacture in China
China is widely recognised as the world leader in high-quality swimwear manufacturing, not because it is cheap, but because it is highly specialised, deeply experienced and remarkably sophisticated.
Our manufacturing partners have been producing swimwear for decades and supply some of the most respected brands in the world. Visiting them in person showed us just how sophisticated their processes truly are.
These factories are vertically integrated, meaning they control every stage of production: weaving and knitting the fabric, dyeing, cutting, sewing, finishing and shipping. This level of control allows for consistency, precision and quality that is difficult to achieve elsewhere.
Seeing high-tech machines and expert hands at work on every Fearless swimsuit was eye-opening - and a reminder of why China is still the gold standard for high-quality swimwear manufacturing.
We Did Not Expect This
We'll be honest, we went into the trip with a few assumptions about what a factory visit in China might be like - and we couldn't have been more wrong.
Our manufacturers oversee the entire production process, from raw fabric through to the finished swimsuit. Watching the technology, systems, and human craftsmanship come together was incredible.
But more than that we don't see our factories as suppliers - they're partners. We communicate with them daily, and meeting face-to-face allowed us to deepen that trust. It gave us clarity on what's possible, what isn't, and how we can continue improving every swimsuit we make.
Their responsiveness to feedback blew us away. When a previous batch arrived with dust on the swimsuits, a new quality control step was introduced immediately. When we asked them to experiment with a new method of joining fabrics, it was tested within minutes. Every adjustment, even while a swimsuit was being worn, was made on the spot with speed, skill and confidence.

Every Swimsuit Is Handmade
One of the biggest misconceptions about clothing production is the idea that machines do most of the work. In reality, there is no machine that can automatically sew a swimsuit.
Every Fearless swimsuit is handmade by highly skilled specialists. Within the factories, hundreds of experienced workers operate sewing machines, each focusing on one specific element of construction. Whether that is elastics, overlocking, twin needle stitching or finishing, each step is timed and optimised so that the right person is doing the right task at exactly the right moment. This level of craftsmanship is what allows our swimwear to feel supportive without being restrictive, structured without being stiff, and secure without being uncomfortable.
It's also why Fearless swimsuits last wear after wear, season after season.
A Moment That Blew My Mind
While travelling between factories on a bullet train, I sketched a new design by hand. When we arrived, the sketch was handed over to the pattern maker. Within two days, they had produced a ready-to-wear sample. It will likely only need one more round of sampling before being production-ready. Seeing an idea move through the swimwear sampling and pattern making process that quickly was mind blowing and a powerful reminder of how closely collaboration and quality are linked. I genuinely think this new swimsuit could easily become one of our best sellers.
Faster Sampling = Better Swimwear for You
We are obsessed with feedback. One of our core beliefs is that feedback is a gift. When customers DM or email us, we log that feedback and actively use it to improve our products. If something can be 1% better, we make it 1% better. During our factory visit, we saw this feedback loop in action. After hearing from customers that some swimsuits had arrived with dust on them in a previous production run, an additional final inspection step was introduced. Each swimsuit is now individually checked before being packed and shipped. This commitment to quality, responsiveness and continuous improvement is why we value our manufacturing relationships so highly and why our swimwear fits and performs the way it does.
A New Perspective on Chinese Manufacturing
Many people still associate Chinese manufacturing with low-quality, mass-production. The reality couldn't be further from the truth.
The factories we work with uphold high labor standards, maintain clean and safe environments, and bring decades of expertise to their craft. One of our partner factories was founded by a woman in 1988 and she still works there today out of passion for swimwear making.
Seeing this firsthand completely changed our perspective. Exceptional swimwear is the result of exceptional partnerships. That is what allows us to create swimsuits that don't dig, tug, or ride up where they shouldn't.
This Is Just The Beginning
This trip wasn't just a visit - it was a masterclass in clarity. Shorter, more frequent factory visits allow us to keep momentum on sampling and development, reduce overproduction and make smarter decisions that shrink our environmental footprint. Most importantly, it reminded us why we do what we do: creating the best possible women's swimsuits, handcrafted with care by true specialists who understand fit inside and out.
