How to tell if you have a long torso?
August 4 | Words by Lyndi Cohen
Ever tried on a one-piece swimsuit and felt like it was pulling in all the wrong places? Straps digging, bum riding up, or that awkward “wedgie feeling” when you move?
It’s not your body that’s wrong… it might be the torso length of the swimmers.
A quick way to tell if you have a long torso
Your torso is the distance between your shoulders and your crotch. Having a long torso has nothing to do with your height, you can be 5’2” with a long torso or 6’0” with a short one.
Signs you might need a long torso swimsuit:
-
Jumpsuits often feel too short in the body, giving you a front wedgie.
-
One-pieces cut into your shoulders, puling your bust down or you have to constantly pull out swimmers from your behind.
- High-waisted jeans never seem to come up high enough.
How to measure your torso (the easy way)
Most measuring tapes only go to 150 cm, so instead of trying to loop the tape all the way around your body, just measure from your shoulder to your crotch:
- Start at the top of your shoulder (where a bra strap would sit).
- Run the tape down the front of your body.
-
Stop at the crotch, using the seam of your undies as a guide.
Write down that number… that’s your torso length for swimwear.
(These are just guidelines, every brand has different fits, which is why so many swimsuits still don’t feel right.)
Why torso length matters for swimwear
Most swimwear brands design one-pieces for a single “standard” torso length — which means if you have a long torso, your suit will feel short, tight, and uncomfortable.
We wanted to fix that.
How Fearless solves it
When we collected measurements from 10,000+ women, we realised how wildly different torso lengths can be. So we tested every one-piece on our Fit Crew (100+ everyday women) and made adjustments to suit real proportions, not outdated size charts.
Some of our styles are especially great for longer torsos, with:
✔️ Flexible torso lengths
✔️ Adjustable straps
✔️ Length added throughout the swimsuit so it's proportional
So you can actually move, swim, and play without the constant wedgie shuffle.
Long torso swim needs to be carefully designed
Which is what we do.
You can’t just add inches to the torso length and call it day (which many brands do). When you have a long torso, the extra length is spread out. So we adjust our swimsuits to ensure the proportions are right, hitting you at the right spot under your bust and ensuring you don’t get a wedgie.
Not sure if you have a long torso?
Take the Fearless Fit Quiz, it’ll help you figure out your torso length and recommend the swimsuits that will feel like they were made for you.
Because the problem isn’t your body. It’s the swimsuits. And we’re here to change that.
